My 16yo is the LEGO fan in our family, and their room is filled from floor to ceiling with sets that they’ve built over the years. But this time around, I think my LEGO nerdery might outweigh theirs: LEGO has announced an official Daft Punk set based on this fan-made “Daft Punk Concert” set, which in turn, was inspired by the robot duo’s Alive 2007 pyramid stage.
No release date for “Daft Punk Concert” set has been announced yet, but as Jay’s Brick Blog notes, it may just be the start. He writes: “What’s really interesting in the official LEGO press release, is that this is billed as a ‘brand new partnership,’ and the first partnership milestone greenlights LEGO Ideas submission of a LEGO Daft Punk set, based on the iconic 2007 Alive tour, that will now go into development.” Which suggests that there might be additional Daft Punk LEGO sets coming down the pipeline. Like, say, sets of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s famous helmets.
Between this and the recently announced Daft Punk-themed edition of Métal Hurlant, it’s clear that even though they’re no longer making music, Daft Punk’s legacy is still very much alive and well.
